Captain Phillips is a 2013 American action thriller film based
on the 2009 Maersk Alabama hijacking, an incident during which Captain Richard
Phillips was taken hostage by pirates in the Indian Ocean. This film received
widespread critical acclaim. All include its direction, screenplay, production
values, cinematography, and the performances of Tom Hanks and Barkhad Abdi were
praised. Rotten Tomatoes reports a 93% approval critic response based on 228
reviews, with a "Certified Fresh" and an average score of 8.3/10. Film
critic David Palmer even gave the movie a rare 10 out of 10, stating it was his
top film of 2013.
The film premiered on September 28, 2013, opening the 2013
New York Film Festival, and was released public on October 11, 2013. Then, till
January 14, 2014, this film grossed a worldwide total of $214,613,820 include $105,010,295
in North America, and $109,603,525 in other countries. Captain Phillips
DVD/Blu-ray discs were scheduled to be released on January 21, 2014.
