The Croods is a DreamWorks Animation 3D computer-animated adventure comedy film in 2013. The film premiered at the 63rd Berlin International Film Festival on February 15, 2013, and was released in the United States on March 22, 2013. It is the first from DreamWorks Animation to be distributed by 20th Century Fox, since the end of their distribution deal with Paramount Pictures. The Croods features the voices of Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds, Catherine Keener, Clark Duke, and Cloris Leachman. It received generally positive reviews, and proved to be a box office success, earning more than $587 million on a budget of $135 million, and launching a new franchise, with a sequel and TV series already put in development.

Reviews of The Croods:
  • While it may not be as (ahem) evolved as the best modern animated fare, The Croods will prove solidly entertaining for families seeking a fast-paced, funny cartoon adventure. - rottentomatoes
  • The animation is first-rate, with moments of genuine visual imagination, and the story, while unremarkable, is entirely adequate. - Christopher Orr from The Atlantic
  • Familiar family dynamics are amusingly exaggerated in the Paleolithic setting, where the most basic necessities require everyone's full-time attention. - Nell Minow from Chicago Sun-Times
  • Although state-of-the-art in its rendering of textures, movement and stereography, DreamWorks' latest 3D toon, "The Croods," adopts a relatively primitive approach to storytelling with its Flintstonian construction of stock, ill-fitting narrative elements. - Leslie Felperin from variety.com

The Croods 3D Blu-ray Review:

The Croods 3D Blu-ray Disc is announced to release on October 1, 2013. If you missed the theater release, this 3D Blu-ray release will give you the same or even more enjoyment. Along with the Blu-ray version, the DVD version will also be launched on the same day.

General depth impresses. The transfer shows off the sprawling landscapes nicely, again both the rocky lands to start and the more colorful vegetation areas later. Shots down on the ground are particularly impressive in terms of realistic spacing and depth. A few odds and ends do stand out; animal beaks and noses sometimes seem to extended beyond the front of the screen, while dust particles and other floating objects on the air seems to drift far back into and well out of the screen. Very little of the dreaded "crosstalk" effect was visible throughout the film. Overall, this is a fair 3D transfer, nothing remarkable or special but certainly not in any way awful.
