As the sequel, the second installment in The Hunger Games film series, Catching Fire was filming began on September 10, 2012 in Atlanta and was released on November 15, 2013 in Brazil, November 20, 2013 in Finland, Sweden and Norway, November 21, 2013 in the United Kingdom, and in IMAX on November 22, 2013 in the United States. 

Soon, this film set records for the biggest November opening weekend and biggest three- and five-day Thanksgiving box-office totals, not only surpassing the first film's box office grosses but also surpassing Iron Man 3 as the highest grossing film of 2013 in North America.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is based on Suzanne Collins' novel, Catching Fire, produced and distributed by Lionsgate. Francis Lawrence, who took over from Gary Ross directed the film, with a screenplay by Simon Beaufoy and Michael Arndt. The film received positive reviews from critics. A sequel and the concluding entry The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 and Part 2 is scheduled to be released on November 21, 2014 and November 20, 2015.
