Pacific Rim was produced by Legendary Pictures and
distributed by Warner Bros. It is a 2013 American science fiction monster film
directed by Guillermo del Toro, written by Travis Beacham and also Guillermo
del Toro. The film was released on July 12, 2013 including releases in 3-D and
IMAX 3D, receiving generally positive reviews and the visual effects and action
sequences were highly praised. It stars Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Idris
Elba, Robert Kazinsky, Charlie Day, Ron Perlman and Max Martini.
The story is set in the 2020s, when Earth is at war with the
Kaijus, colossal monsters which have emerged from an interdimensional portal on
the floor of the Pacific Ocean. When an alien attack threatens the Earth's
existence, giant robots piloted by humans are deployed to fight off the menace
to combat the monsters. Raleigh Becket, a washed-up Jaeger pilot called out of
retirement and teamed with rookie pilot Mako Mori as part of a last-ditch
effort to defeat the Kaijus.
Part 1: Why Backup Pacific Rim 3D Blu-ray
On Oct.15, 2013, Warner Bros. released Pacific Rim 3DBlu-ray which includes Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, DVD and UltraViolet. American audiences
may not have rushed out to see Pacific Rim in theaters, but I suspect it will
enjoy a long, happy life on Blu-ray and develop a much larger following.
Pacific Rim is a blast from start to finish; a blast Warner's Blu-ray release
makes that much more literal with a stunning video presentation, thrilling 3D
experience and thunderous DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 surround track. The 4-disc
set is also armed with more than four hours of extensive special features,
including a director's commentary, more than a dozen excellent Focus Point
featurettes, and an entire second Blu-ray disc of additional high definition
bonus content. Pacific Rim may not be the best film of the year, or even offer
the best 3D on the market, but its Blu-ray release is in serious contention for
"Best of 2013" honors.

Extended:
Del Toro envisioned Pacific Rim as an earnest, colorful
adventure story, with an "incredibly airy and light feel", in contrast
to the "super-brooding, super-dark, cynical summer movie". The
director focused on "big, beautiful, sophisticated visuals" and
action that would satisfy an adult audience, but has stated his "real
hope" is to introduce the kaiju and mecha genres to a generation of
children.
