Kiki's Delivery Service, a 1989 Japanese anime movie, is one
of Miyazaki’s most accessible films. The heartwarming, gorgeously-rendered tale
follows a young witch named Kiki who leaves her family to make her way in the
big city. When an apprentice witch turns thirteen, she must leave her home in
order to hone her craft. Although Kiki's sole talent is broom-flying, she sets
out for adventure with her cat Jiji. They settle in a charming seaside town,
where Kiki establishes her own delivery service. As Kiki learns to balance
independence with responsibility, her kind heart wins her many new friends in
this coming-of-age tale.
It’s a beautiful and introspective masterpiece. On the
review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, Kiki’s Delivery Service scored a
perfect 100% rating based on 22 reviews. The initial DVD version of Kiki’sDelivery Service was released in 2003. 7 years later in 2010, a new DVD version
released with some more features.
Kiki's Delivery Service Reviews
- The characters are gently and warmly rendered, and a climactic action sequence involving an unmoored dirigible hints at the stately grandiosity of Miyazaki's masterpiece Howl's Moving Castle. - J. R. Jones from Chicago Reader
- Top-drawer kiddie fare for both fans of the exotic and mainstream family auds. - Ken Eisner
- This is a movie that appeals not only to kids, but to teens and adults as well. This is the kind of stuff Disney should be producing nowadays. I own my own copy now and whenever I pop it into my VCR, it always puts me in a good mood. - JeffG. from Boston, MA in IMDB
- The magic of Kiki is the girl's sense of wonder in her new world, whether it's her soaring flight among the migrating geese or a bicycle ride... to see the dirigible. - Sean Axmaker from Seanax.com
- Miyazaki has found here the perfect balance between allegory and the actual. - Bill Gibron from PopMatters
- A beautiful and introspective masterpiece, one of my all-time favorite films, and Kiki's search for the heart within herself is a tale that adults may appreciate more than their children. - mahlersoboes from United States in IMDB
- A fine, sincere piece of bittersweet delight. - Tim Brayton from Antagony & Ecstasy
- Most highly recommended to absolutely anyone with anything even resembling an inner child, Kiki's Delivery Service is the sort of movie with a subtle richness and sense of wonder that must be experienced to be truly appreciated. - animeworld.com

looked a little smoother and had fewer artifacts. Screen caps reveal that the
new edition gains a small number of pixels on all four sides of the frame (in
sections that were previously black).Audio tracks can be toggled during
playback of this new DVD. And the English presentation on this 2010 DVD differs
from the original 1998 one that was found on the 2003 DVD. No matter which
