  • While few of the paper-thin characters register long enough to make much of an impression, Diesel carries the movie with his unsettling mix of Zen-like tranquillity and barely controlled rage.- Reece Pendleton from Chicago Reader
  • May not have much of a brain, but it's definitely got a pulse. - Andrew O'Hehir from Salon.com
  • The Fast and the Furious is probably the first movie to get me into cars while at the same time enjoying myself without having to worry about a plot. - by departed07 (United States) on 1 May 2008 in IMDB
  • Shrewdly conceived, confidently executed and outrageously entertaining. - Joe Morgenstern from Wall Street Journal
  • A gritty and gratifying cheap thrill, Rob Cohen's high-octane hot-car meller is a true rarity these days, a really good exploitationer, the sort of thing that would rule at drive-ins if they still existed. - Todd McCarthy from Variety
  • "The Fast and the Furious" is not a great movie, but it delivers what it promises to deliver, and knows that a chase scene is supposed to be about something more than special effects. - Roger Ebert
